Yesterday we ran a post on “Top 5 Reasons Thor Is Sequel Worthy and Green Lantern is Not“. Warner Bros. has already discussed the possibility of a Green Lantern sequel, despite box office tragedy. Even though we knew Marvel had plans for sequels of the individual Avengers characters, a sequel to Thor had not been announced…Until now. Looks like Disney/Marvel will be releasing Thor 2 in 2013, without the direction of Kenneth Branagh. A new director will take the helm, which could be a good thing. I’m sure there will be plenty of speculation on who that new director might be.
Iron Man 3 has been slated to hit theaters in May 2013, so Thor 2 may see a later summer release. There could be a possibility of the Green Lantern sequel hitting theaters that same year. I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t put it in direct competition with Thor or Iron Man. That might be a little too ambitious. I think the only concern here, is whether or not Marvel can continue to wow audiences through 2013. Captain America: The First Avenger hits theaters in July and The Avengers will be in theaters next year. Hopefully a year off from Marvel madness will raise more intrigue for the remaining sequels, which might include another Captain America film, and another The Avengers film as well.
Update: Thor 2 will hit theaters November 8, 2013
Are you ready to see more from the team of Asgard? Are you still on the Marvel train to film domination?
While you’re waiting for that Thor sequel, spend some time making your favorite character in a papercraft.
